Roleystone Vs South Coogee Santich Park  11.06.11

Lovely weather at Santich Park – canteen in a caravan due to renovations. Light wind favouring the home side in the first quarter.

After last week’s good start Roley came out full of optimism but that soon evaporated in lots of early pressure from South Coogee. Strong marks and accurate kicking led to a 12 shots at goal. Roley’s defense under the pump – good mark by Jake. Brodie, Liam and Mark working hard with a few forward moves but no shots at goal.

Second quarter started well with first 2 goals to Roley by Kye and Aidan. Good pressure from the boys around the contests leading to a series of good forward moves. Great shepherding from Jackson and a strong mark from Sam M in defence. Good ball movement and more accurate kicking from Roley boys. South Coogee flankers had their own ball at times but even when in control Roley did not give them time and space however they still managed to win more than a fair share of contested possessions. Roley’s movement was much improved on the occasions when they had possession of the ball.

James had a strong 3rd quarter winning lots of congested possession despite giving away height and weight to his opponent his speed could not be matched. He won a 50m penalty. Jake strong in defence reflected in a much tighter quarter.

Roley won this quarter, keeping South Coogee goal-less. We were much stronger and more confident in defence with good fluid passages of play. Roley scored a good team goal with strong running from Aidan, a good inside 50 and an excellent finish from Jayden.

There was very little hair product on display from South Coogee but they did have a 4:1 advantage to Roley in fluorescent orange boot count….
