Mothers Day presents at Springdale Oval
Having lost the opening 2 matches of the season the U15 boys were on a Mother’s Day Mission. To the cheers of their mums and grandmums they ran onto the ground with positive attitude and a determination to do their mums proud.
First quarter saw the play predominantly in Roley’s half and when the ball did occasionally manage to visit the Hawk’s goal, Dylan showed great defensive play denying his much larger opponent a touch - this combined with Luke’s tight shepherding allowed the ball to be returned to the Tigers den.
First quarter score Roley with an impressive 6.5 while holding Fremantle Hawks scoreless.
The breeze picked up in the second quarter but not enough to cool the Roley boys who were on fire with great marks by Chris Hill, Jake Bayley and Ryan Hunt . Great passage of play by Laurie and Ben H also resulting in a goal. Second quarter showed we were doing well in basic skills and more. By the main break Roley had blown their lead out to 11.9 but still there was no joy for the visiting mums who were yet to enjoy even a minor score.
It took until the third quarter for the visitors to score their first goal. Roley’s focus was to bring the ball back into play. However even with Ben H winning most of the knocks we were in danger of crowding our forward 50 – afterall this was where all the action was! Tony reminded the boys to focus on staying in position and locking the ball in.
Final quarter saw Roley winning even more centre bounce downs, clearances, shepherding well and staying in position, overall doing the basics very well. A great team effort by all resulting in a comprehensive thrashing of our opponents by 135 points!!
Happy Mother’s Day Roley Mums – apologies to the Freo Hawks Mums even all the Mothers Day hampers were won by Roleystone mums!!
FINAL SCORE Roleystone 23.17 Fremantle Hawks 3.2
GOALS: 5 Laurie Siroen, Curtis Mercer, Ben Horsman, 4, Ryan Hunt, 2 Zac Gadomski 1, Nick Groves, Jarrod Rudkin
