Match Details
"Springdale Park in warm, sunny conditions was the setting to the U14s continuing their winning start to the season".
Freo coming off the back of a bye looked like they were going to be a competitive unit against Roleystone, as at the end of the first quarter the Tigers were down by three goals.
It was a motivating talk by the Roley Coach, encouraging 150% improvement by the team for the rest of the game that set the standard for the next three quarters.
The new look Roley team started to shine as they used the ground with clever handpassing and kicking through the corridor. Good play by Ollie, Lochie, Bryce, Jamie and Clay saw Roleystone coming back with a goal to Michael. Great second attempts at the ball by Darrian, with Anthony and Jake working hard, the crowd saw outstanding teamwork displayed, with unselfish play by Josh who was solid in attack. Sam was in fine kicking form with two sensational goals this quarter. Lochie had an excellent passage of play, fending off his opponents with his pace and talent, kicking on the run a goal that just swung through the middle. It was a total team perfomance that contributed to a great quarter of football with the Tigers now up by three goals to start the next half of the game.
The second half the game was just as memorable for the Roleystone fans as the team cleared centre and dominated the play with much of the possession down the Roley forward line. With more straight kicking, the goal tally should have been greater but it was certainly locked down the Roley end as the players had consecutive shots at goal. Roleystone gained further confidence with a goal a piece to Ollie and Lochie. This inturn had Roleystone in the lead by thirty points going into the last quarter.
A quick goal by Fremantle was the start of quarter with Roleystone answering the play by a set goal to Liam and terrific play by Michael and Tom for a goal. Great sharing of the ball with plenty of team talk was evident by the Roley players as Connor, Bryce Ollie, Cameron and Matt dominated the play with some near misses on goal. A determined Roleystone team was not going to be beaten with performance as Michael, Connor and Ollie were instrumental in the last goal of the game to Bryce just before the final siren.
The final score was Roleystone 14 goals 18 points to Fremantle 7 goals 5 points.
Well done to Brendan - first game for the Roley Tigers and welcome back to Jamie and Anthony for a terrific start to the season.
