Round Number:5 |
On a cool sunny morning the Tigers, with Mathew as their Captain were ready to take on the Bulldogs and continue on their winning form.
The quarter starts quickly with pleny of pressure by both teams as they fought hard to maintain control of the ball under slippery conditions. Roleystone were using the ball and field well sharing it around between the centre and forward line. Roleystone had a few scoring attempts at goal with Tom and Jeremy instrumental in clearing centre and locking it down the Roleystone end. The Tigers players, Jeremy, Callum and Simon were trying hard with a poster resulting. Roleystone first goal was an excellent display of teamwork by the boys, Bryce kicks to Lochie who passes it to Callum and onto Josh R for a major.
It was back at centre and Roleystone were on a roll with Tom winning the tap out to Simon who passes to Lochie and Simon shot at goal to no avail. On baller Bryce was at his usual industrious self as he roved the ground, sending the ball to Callum onto Mathew to Brodie onto Bryce for another goal to Roleystone. It was soon down at Kelmscott's end for a period with key defenders Troy, Clay and Jamie asserting pressure at the opponents with Liam tackling hard. Anthony was playing exceptionally well, getting into the packs and pushing through with the ball Roleystone soon was able to create a turnaround with an exchange by Brodie to Callum, back to Brodie onto to Mathew to Lochie for a poster. More tremendous play by Roleystone with Bryce passing to Josh R onto Cameron for a goal that bounced through to end the quarter.
The next term was just as exciting for the Roleystone fans with Jeremy clearing centre and a quick goal resulted to Josh R. We had Michael, Callum, Bryce and Brodie exchanging passes throughout the corridor playing well. An exchange by Jeremy, Bryce, Mathew to Michael just missed for a behind. It was a fast turnaround by Roleystone as Adam kicked his first goal of the day. David was hard at the ball clearing centre to Brodie onto Callum with a fantastic banana kick from Cameron for another goal to Roleystone. The Roleystone defenders was soon hard at work running their guts out putting their bodies on the line to stop Kelmscott from scoring goals. A few quick goals to the Bulldogs got the Tigers alert to fact that this team was not going down without a strong fight so up came the pressure from Jamie, Liam, Anthony, David and Troy to battle it out to hold the game for Roleystone's attack. A few more points resulted for Roleystone with Tom running well down the field creating space for Lochie to Josh R onto to Cameron for a near miss and then another behind to Cameron to finish the first half of the game.
With a strong talking to by the coaches, Roleystone knew what they needed to do for the next half - put in 110% and finish this game off with lots of team talking, manning up and going for the ball. The match started again evenly positioned with Kelmscott fighting hard for the ball and Roleystone bringing it down into the fifty mark with Jeremy clearing centre onto Callum to Mathew onto Lochie through to Simon for a point. Another behind to Roleystone was costly as Kelmscott were on the came back trail with our backline getting a workout as pressure was exerted from the centre down the field. Liam, Jeremy and Bryce were trying hard to control the ball for Roleystone as the tempo built up, soccer became apparent each team endevouring to get the ball on and away from their opponents. David and Brodie were fantastic in their positions with Lochie setting it up for Josh R to kick his third for the game so far. There was courageuos efforts by Darian, Jeremy and Bryce as Tom was gut busting through the packs to break away from Kelmscott as they plugged away at reducing the Roleystone lead. Adam and Daniel were working together on the wing tackling and trying hard for the Roleystone team as was Michael, Clay and Callum. We saw hard fought battles in puddles of water particularly by Clay who didn't give up his fight and sheer determination by Jeremy who I know took some knocks but put on a brave face and took the game in his stride.
The fourth quarter was just as intense as the crowd got into this game. The contest was not over and the teams were put to the test, who was the better team on the day and the strongest to withstand the pressure?. Kelmscott were certainly on the comeback and Roleystone had to defend hard and get it out of the oppositions end. The first five minutes of the quarter was certainly dominated by Kelmscott as the skilful defending trio of Jamie, Liam and Clay were put to the test throwing their bodies on the line to stop the attack. With plenty of willing the team on and cheering by the Roleystone fans the last minutes of the game became desparate as Kelmscott hit the front for the first time in the game. Much to amazement and the delight of the Roleystone team and parents as we held our breathe, we saw Tom bursting out of the centre with a sheer look of determination booted the ball down the Roleystone end and eventually picked up by Jeremy with a fantastic much needed goal to get Roleystone back in front. Roleystone did not give up knowing all to well the taste of victory is sweet and the coaches wrath is to be avoided ,so everyone in the team put in thir 110% as asked to, with another point on the board from Tom who was playing at his best, This cancelled out a win to Kelmscott and Roleystone claimed the victory. Courageous play Roleystone you didnt give up and deserved the hard fought win.
