The first game of the season saw cloudy and slippery conditions with both teams pumped up ready to go. The game started with Cockburn winning the tap out and the ball going down Cockburn's end only to be saved by the Roleystone defence of Anthony and Josh H, with Jamie bombing it down the field to Callum, David and Michael, only to return to be marked by Cockburn for a point. A goal by Cockburn was followed by an excellent passage of play which resulted in a goal by Jeremy. Cockburn kicks another goal to end the first quarter, which was an intense start to a great match!
The second quarter starts with Roleystone losing the tap but Bryce managed to get the ball and kick it into the fifty metre mark but with no result. The ball is soon stolen back down Cockburn's end and they score three behinds in a row! Tom, Mathew and Lochie came alive with great determination and used the ball well. Another play by Clay, Tom, Mathew, Callum and Bryce which results in Josh R kicking a goal.. So at half time Roleystone is in the game and down by 5 points.
Third quarter is more aggressive with both teams desperate to be in front. There was lots of soccering backwards and forwards, Josh R manages to score a goal. Then Lochie gets the ball, kicks it down into the fifty only to be marked by a Cockburn player, which eventually results in a goal to them. Callum, Michael, David and Lochie all produce great play down the wing but unfortunately Cockburn creates a turnover and they kick another goal. They are now three goals in the lead at three quarter time
At the start of the fourth quarter the ball was kicked out of the centre, alot of hard work results in Mathew kicking a goal. The ball goes back to the centre but Cockburn wins the tap and the ball goes straight into the fifty but with excellent defending by Jamie, Clay, Simon and Troy, Roleystone stops Cockburn from getting a goal. Another great play by Tom who taps it down to Brodie who handpasses to Lochie who then kicks to Daniel who kicks a goal. Tom wins the tap again to Lochie who kicks into the fifty metre mark but Cockburn gets the ball and kicks the ball out but Bryce marks and kicks to Adam who kicks to Daniel who kicks his second goal. Another quick goal by Adam and Roleystone is only a goal behind with five minutes to go. Lochie wins the clearance who kicks it to Josh R who creates space and handpasses to Connor who has a shot on goal but narrowly misses. Cockburn gets the ball up their end and kicks a goal. Another two quick goals by Cockburn stretches the margin out to nineteen points and the siren goes. A great effort by Roleystone but just came up short in the end.
