Roley 12s have hit their straps to record a third success in three games. At Springdale on Saturday 26th June against Sth Coogee an even contest saw Roley prevail.
Sth Coogee were a little undermanned giving a couple of Roley boys an extra quarter playing with the opposition. The first quarter was an even struggle, with South having the advantage of the wind. Liam VanderLaan, playing for the opposition, kicked the first goal. Jackson Morfitt and James Myall-Brown were good in the midfield whilst Eric Mitchell presented across half forward.
The second quarter with the wind saw Roley kick a couple of goals courtesy of Eric Mitchell and Jackson Morfitt. Jake Spanjers was excellent across the middle, driving the ball forward often following solid contests.
The third quarter was a strong one for Roley. Considering they were against the wind a Daniel East goal saw only a 1 goal advantage to Sth Coogee. Justin Burrows and Trent McDonnell ran the ball into the wind well. Mark Fraser, Rory O'Neill and Jack Newman held up well in the backline.
Early in the final quarter Sth Coogee pushed forward constantly only to be thwarted time and time again by Myall-Brown across half back. Eventually the pressure reaped benefits for Roley with two Burrows goals and a mark and goal by Fraser.
A low scoring game of about 6 to 3 goals but a very good contest.
Better players included; Jake Spanjers, Jackson Morfitt, James Myall-Brown, Justin Burrows, Callum Hutton and Rory O'Neill.
Later in the afternoon 13 of the boys, accompanied by 3 youngens (Clayton Morfitt, Tom Myall-Brown and Lachlan Fraser) represented the South Fremantle Bulldogs in a Little League game at EFTEL stadium against Perth representatives Redcliffe. It was a short game but a great opportunity for the boys to play in the Red and White, and in front of a good crowd. Clayton Morfitt kicked the only goal, and all the boys got a kick somewhere along the line. |
