Three weekends without any real football, other than being taught a lesson by the parents last week, and the Roley 12s were confronted with a very powerful Jandakot Jets team in last Saturday's night game.

On a cold but clear night in Atwell, and with plenty of sideline support, the Roley boys could not quite match the skill and power of the Jandakot team. Some very powerful forward line marking saw the Jets dominate a first quarter by at least 5 goals. Despite this, Jack Newman kept bobbing up for a kick and Mark Fraser moved back to quieten down the dominant full forward.

The second quarter saw the injection of pace and desperation in the midfield and some steadying in the backline. The smaller players such as Justin Burrows and James Myall-Brown showed everyone else that endeavour and persistence can compete with power and size. Callum Hutton threw himself into contests also. There was progress in this quarter with Roley kicking a goal through midfielder Burrows, and the Jets kept to 3 goals.

The third quarter was a struggle between half back lines with Jackson Hanna, Jake Spanjers, Jack Newman and Jackson Morfitt holding the opposition up often. Sam Tiddy gathered a few possessions on the wing, and Travis Newland made evry effort to give something across half forward. A two goal quarter to Jandakot indicated increased pressure by the Roley boys.

The fourth quarter was similar to the third, with several players being asked to be accountable for their opponents, and being removed from the ground if they could not fulfil their task - a sign of things to come as 13s approaches.

Whilst the score was a disappointment, the effort by the boys grew as the game progressed. It is evident that basic skills and an aggressive edge need to be brought into their game.

This week's game could prove to be interesting with the Kardinya Kats travelling up to Springdale. The Roley boys have not played the Kats in the past 2 seasons, so who knows what's in store?

Better Players included; Justin Burrows, Jack Newman, Jackson Morfitt, James Myall-Brown (and anyone else whose name starts with a J). Well done to Sam Tiddy who is showing progress each week, in his first year of footy.
