Billed as the match of the Round, the game between Cockburn and Roleystone was expected to be a ripper with the Tigers eager to post a win after the draw in Round One.
Roleystone got the 1st foray forward but it was Cockburn who slotted the 1st goal. Some hard work on the wing by the Tigers got the ball to Monty who ran into the forward 50 and grabbed our 1st 6 points. The Tigers needed to man up, Cockburn were too loose around the ground. The heavy conditions under foot made it hard to pick up the ball, but Cockburn worked it out better and had great support. They were 18pts up at the 1st break.
Roleystone got one back but Cockburn were fast on their feet. Peter upped his work rate, Sean got some great touches, Alex stopped a few forward thrusts by Cockburn, but the Tigers couldnt covert and Cockburn playing from the front were able to run the ball up the ground.
Our home advantage wasnt working for us, Cockburn had a wall across our forward 50. We couldnt penetrate and posted no score tor the 3rd quarter.
Our backs worked very hard and kept Cockburn to only 1 goal. Brandon got some good taps in the ruck but was moved to the back line for height. A 50 metre penalty in the goal area was handy for the Tigers. We kept them to just 2pts in the last, but we played from the back and allowed them to much room. Cockbur taking the game by 17 points.
Roleystone 3.5-23 Cockburn 6.4-40
