13's Round 14 vs Armadale at Springdale PDF Print E-mail

Conditions – Cold, dew, sunshine – Perfect weather for football!

Today was the welcome return to form for Chima who came to play in round 14 of Season 2008. It would become evident as the game went on.

After several minutes of scrappy play, a good team effort resulted in our first goal from Chris McComber.
The first quarter set the tone where Roleystone allowed Armadale to dictate the terms, for what was to be a very scrappy and untidy encounter all day.

Curtis picked up and ran with the ball for a couple of forward forays without any result. Josh H worked hard to win some contested ball.  Good running and second efforts resulted in Chima scoring the second goal.  Poor kicking and disposal by Roleystone right from the start was to continue for the remainder of the game.

The second quarter started with early entry into our forward line. A goal resulted to Josh H, however the following ten minutes of play was spent with Armadale working hard but not able to break past their attacking fifty. Chima, Ryan and Josh H worked hard to repel their attacks. At the other end, a mark by Jarrod from an errant Armadale kick out resulted in a tussle at full forward with Chima bagging another goal.

Brodie worked hard in and under and took a hard knock.  Tom D and Josh H also worked very hard in and under to keep Roleystone attacking.  Late in the quarter, good defensive efforts by Ben, Nick G and Braydyn worked the ball to centre half forward, where strong bullocking by Chima resulted in an easy kick to Ryan in space. Callum alone in the square scored easily. The quarter finished with an untidy scrimmage deep in our forward line and a rushed behind.

Score : Roleystone 5.14 Armadale 0.00

The 3rd qtr started with a clearance from the centre via a clearing handball from Curtis and some good run by Tom D. Our forwards however did not work hard enough as a unit to get a result. The next five minutes Armadale worked hard to keep Roleystone out but they could not break past the centerline.  Good hard work by Bradyn and Josh H kept Armadale under pressure. Ryan ran forward and passed off to Brodie in space. A fifty metre penalty gave Brodie an easy goal.  Minutes later Jarrod and Josh H worked hard in and under and gave Brodie another opportunity to score but he hit the goal post. Shortly after Doug missed a shot on goal and Josh H slammed a snap into the post as well. Late in the quarter Jarrod put another behind on the scoreboard from directly in front. An untidy attempt to kick out from Armadale saw Curtis snap successfully on goal.  Another forward thrust saw Brodie follow with another goal within minutes.

Score : Roleystone 8.19 Armadale 0.00

From the centre bounce Nick Z cleared to Bradyn for another thrust into our forward line. Good work by Brodie, Chima and Laurence gave Curtis the chance to convert another major. Over the next  few minutes Jarrod, Chima and Laurence continued to work hard pumping the ball into our goal square, Curtis snapped a behind.  Josh H opportunistically converted from a crumbing opportunity.   Roleystone continued to attack, but Armadale persevered, only good defensive work by Jarrod, Brodie and Nick saw Curtis mark in the square to convert his 3rd goal.  Laurence added another goal minutes later from a free kick about 20 metres out from goal.

Several more entries into the forward line were met with staunch defence from Armadale. Poor kicking and disposal by Roleystone did not help.   More good work by Ryan and Nick Z gave Tom D his chance to score a goal.
Armadale continued to work hard and through sheer persistence scored their first goal thirty seconds before the final siren.

Final Score; Roleystone 13.24 (102) def. Armadale 1.0 (6)

Best Players : Doug, Tom D, Josh H, Ben C (alias Chima), Brodie, Jarrod.
