Congrats Liam & Nick Z
Much excitement greeted the two ‘50th gamers’, Nick and Liam. 1st point to Ben, but first goal to Kelmscott, after which the rain started to come down, and the ball spent most of the time in Roley’s forward line. Quick thinking after a knock from Laurence after a bounce in the goal square led to a goal from Ben.
By the end of the 1st quarter the rain was ‘persisting’ down, but the beginning of the 2nd it was absolutely pouring! Wet weather skills, and good defensive pressure by Luke, Laurence, Storm and Curtis meant that the midfield had more time to take the ball forward, but it was a goalless quarter for both sides. It was still pouring in the 3rd quarter, and by now Kelmscott were playing ‘soccer’ (much to Sonia’s disgust!). Good defence in what was now ‘Lake Roleystone’ kept Kelmscott to a single point for the quarter, and persistent efforts to pick the ball up in trying conditions led to several goals to Roleystone. By the fourth quarter the rain had slowed, but the ground water meant we were playing water polo at the goal end! Final score Roleystone 8:9 (57) to Kelmscott 1:4 (10), plus 2 injuries to Kelmscott! (hope they’re OK!). Good team effort in trying conditions.
Coaches Comments: Further positive signs in a game played under very difficult conditions. The next 4 games will be the making or breaking of our season! |
