Our first full team of the year and an all round good game.
This was our first game of the year with a full team (15 no reserves) and this started the team off with a positive and it showed well into the first quarter with our team making great play and keeping the opposition from the ball. While not scoring freely we did have most of the ball in our forward but too many mistakes cost us a number of goals.
Our second quarter was not our best, we let the opposition make a jump on us and let our guard down. The run and interchange of the opposition was starting to to impact on the game. Conner was playing magnificent with excellent grabs, pickups and movement from the back with Simon and Michael assisting around the centre of the ground, however again our forwards were not playing in front allowing the opposition to repel quickly any forward movement we had.
The half time break and the coach talked to players and provided positive feedback and for the team to use this game to increase their fitness in preparation of the later knockout cup. The request was to stay with your man and play in front and a request was made for the forwards to show more and get in front of their player.
The third quarter was an improvement on the second however the fresh legs of the opposition was making the difference as our boys tired as well as a few obtaining injuries (leg) during the game. While we did not win the quarter the fight was their and the parents were proud of what they were doing. Simon was continuing to push hard and break away from the pack with support continuing from Michael, Conner and Anthony. Ashleigh was able to get in the packs and get the ball out to our bigger boys and helped a number of times to make the clearances, however again our forwards were not able to capitalise.
The fourth quarter was a continuation of the third, a gutsy effort but just not able to keep up with the opposition.
The boys can hold their heads up they played a good game, improvement is needed by our forwards to be in front and run harder and that is something we wil have to work at during training.
Player Award: Simon A for a gutsy hard running, never give up attitude - well done Simon.
