Before the bounce, Jadeon was seconded to help out Roleystone Black, who were a man down. The rain cleared for the start of the game, which saw Lochie, Tom and Jeremy starting in the centre. Cam Allnutt dived in hard at centre half back and earned a good free, but he first five minutes were basically all played in Coogee’s attacking half. Brodie, Adam and Davo were all getting touches, and Bryce was again marking well. Troy passed across the ground to Lochie at half back, Lochie then got it over to Tom, who booted to Matt but the ball spilled from his grasp. Tom followed up quickly and had a shot, but it went across the face. South Coogee ran it down the ground, and with plenty of unmanned players scored a nice goal. Roleystone replied in the best possible way – at the bounce it was Jeremy who speared a pass to the leading Lochie, who benefited from a 50-metre penalty and kicked a nice goal. South Coogee were good on the rebound and stringing handpasses together, but good marking from Jordan, Tom, Lochie and David in the centre slowed them nicely.
During the first break Roley were encouraged to use the breeze, which was stiffer than the coach’s hammies. A bomb out of the centre landed only metres out from goal, and Adam put it through from the pocket after getting a free – a beautiful drop punt through the middle. Tom then won the next bounce, and again Adam was there to mark and put another one through! Davo was on the receiving end of a high tackle, and Coogee conceded yet another 50-metre penalty. Who should be on the end of the resulting kick but Adam, who unfortunately only managed a behind this time around. Matt made good shortly afterwards, after getting on the end of a good kick from Josh. Cam allnutt was going all nuts in defense, supported well by Bryce, Brodie and Daniel. South Coogee opened the scoring in the third quarter, running from boundary to centre virtually unopposed. We were breaking down a bit at centre half back, but Webby and Cam were providing good options on the far wing. Jordan gained the benefit of the third 50-metre to go against Coogee, apparently naughty words to the umpire this time! Jeremy was zippin’ and zappin’, Brodie had a shot on goal which fell just short, but then Lochie roved beautifully and goaled! After bottling up play in the forward line, Sth. Coogee scored the first goal of the 4th quarter. Jeremy laid a ferocious tackle in the back line, but Coogee were coming hard and scoring quickly. Another high bomb lobbed right into the arms of “man of the day” Adam, and another goal was the result! Back to the centre for the bounce, and Liam got a free for a sling tackle. Only a few seconds later he was tackling like a pig-dog and providing a great example for his team-mates! Jordan saved a goal with a punch on the line, and it was all over. Adam was feted as a football God, and after receiving his award was mobbed by adoring fans – namely his Dad!
