A slow start, a chat at half time and an inspiration third quarter and follow up final quarter
Not one of our best starts of the year so far and again with numbers down with only 12 initially and then later 13 players available. Fortunately Jandakot Reds had extra numbers and were very happy to help out by providing additional players so that each team had a full squad of fifteen on the ground - Thank you to Jandakot Reds.
In the first half we found ourselves not being focused and not wanting to get in front. While a few players tried hard support was not there and turn overs repeated within our own forward line that resulted in opposition able to get it out quickly and score goals quite freely. As a concerned coach in the teams method of play a request at quarter time was to simply follow the basics as had been taught at training, unfortunately this was not taken on by the team and two few were running hard.
At half time the coach requested all players to the change rooms and had a heart to heart with the team, and whatever was said surely worked as the boys came out and played a very inspirational third quarter out scoring the opposition 6 goals to 3. An excellent effort by all and the three quarter chat was one of encouragement in that it showed how they can play as a team and can play very good football.
The final quarter was a close fought quarter with an even number of scoring shots and results i that quarter. While another loss was on the board it was a good indication to the players themselves that they can in fact play very good football... something we all knew as coach and parents but needed to players to believe in themselves.
We hope that each player will take that belief to the next game and we look forward to that game.
Player award went a player that from start to finish went hard and tried to fill in the spaces where other players were not running, particularly in the first half, his ability to find space, break tackles and look for team mates is something we hope all our players took note of and will emulate - well done Conner B. al
