U12's Knockout Cup 2007 (Week One)
Cross Park, Roleystone
Roleystone U12's vs South Coogee Red
Congratulations to Aaron, who plays his 50th. It was also the first foray into youth rules. It was a scrappy opening as the ball was mulled up and down the ground. The first goal was scored by South Coogee Red, immediately answered through great work from Ryan, Nick Z, a flashy hard pass from Jake to Ben C who scored a 40m goal. Good work from Tom D, spoiling, tackling hard and kicking to position.
The second quarter saw the game open up. Dean was working hard across the centre marking well and kicking accurately to players down field. Nick G played a couple of great defensive tackles, but South Coogee Red eventually broke through with two quick goals. Tom B answered with a goal off the pack.
The game stepped up another notch in the third as Roley peppered the goals. Ben C was getting leather poisoning in the middle, a couple of big marks to Ben H and grim defence from Ryan, Luke and Chris. Brodie and Sam combined well across the centre and eventually Ben C scored a goal to put us in front. The old fell doing the boundary umpires job (Glen) was huffing and puffing trying to keep up.
The final quarter was desperate play from both sides, with most of the play in South Coogee's forward line. Great defence from Ryan, Josh, Liam and again, Ben C, saw us win a hard fought battle by one point. The club song echoed around the Cross Park precinct for the first time.......hopefully there will be many more!! |
