A cold, windy Springdale was the setting for the local derby between Roleystone and Kelmscott. Early pressure from Kelmscott resulted in a number scoring opportunities. Some stirling defence from Ben H, Ben C and Sam. Roleystone struggled to move the ball out of defence as Kelmscott flooded their forward line.
Coach Tony's first quarter break breezy "pep" talk had the desired affect with a much more passionate effort in the second quarter. Nick Z was solid in defence supported by Ben H. Half way through the second quarter Roley upped the tempo with contributions from Sam, Chris Mc, Brodie and Dylan around the packs which culminated in a superb goal from Liam. Nothing could be taken away from Kelmscott's commitment and their eyes for the ball focus which took them to half time with the upper hand.
Roleystone's third quarter effort was inspired by Ben C. He had numerous possessions, took 5 excellent marks and provided some great shepherding. The solid defence was an excellent platform for the forwards. Nick Z, Luke and Dean showed glimpses of what Roleystone can do! The third quarter finished with a late mark and goal on the siren for a deserving Ryan Hunt who had put in a very good performance.
Roley started the fourth quarter kicking into a stiff breeze, the intensity at the ball improved particularly with Aaron, Laurence,Tom D and Callum but Kelmscott held fast in the positions and finished strongly. Roley to their credit kept at the task at hand and played the game in good spirit. |
