With Mick sidelined due to a mystery illness, Assistant Greg Wrighton stepped into the coaching role, ably assisted by replacement runner Bill Allnutt, every bit the sculptured athlete in his fluoro green shirt.
Troy’s turn at being Captain today, and he was in good touch early. Bryce was doing well in the centre, and Ethan took a great mark to send Roleystone forward. The two teams were quite evenly matched and only behinds were scored in the first quarter. Lochie almost had his head thumped off on the boundary line, but recovered to keep the ball moving forward.
The second quarter saw some great, aggressive footy from the Tigers. Guys like Tom, Cameron A., Lochie, Anthony and David were combining beautifully and doing the important stuff like shepherding and handballing. Against the flow of play Leda scored the first goal. Ben was playing a strong role in defense, and Jordan marked strongly. Cameron M. was also like a rock back in defense. Late in the quarter Jordan scored a great goal, courtesy of really hard running from lightning Liam!! Then a minute later, a long bomb from David lobbed into the arms of Connor, who booted a beauty!
Leda scored the first two goals of the third quarter and kept the Tigers’ defense busy. Ashleigh marked strongly, and Matty was dangerous up forward. The rest of the quarter was a bottleneck as Roley’s defense continually repelled Leda’s attacks.
Most of the final quarter was played in Leda’s half, the Tigers battling to keep Leda’s scoring to a minimum. Jadeon, Bryce and Josh kept repelling, but the breeze was at Leda’s back and they used it well.
