Another bright spring day at Springdale Reserve.
Some early congestion in the mid field saw scoring a little difficult until a quick transfer of play from Forrestdale resulted in a goal. Jackson Morfitt held up several attacks with strong marking across half back. A couple of first quarter highlights included some from Liam van der Laan; chase and tackles. Players moving out of position constantly cost Roleystone opportunities to move the ball into the forward line.
A lot of second quarter congestion which saw some tough body work by Brayden Walker-Lewsey and some pack work by Eric Mitchell and Jackson Hannah. Riley Gibbons did his best across half back also; however the pace of Forrestdale resulted in another goal. Travis Newland was a shining light in the forward line presenting and marking well. Jackson held firm once again across half back.
The third quarter began with a quick break by Forrestdale and the ball spent some time in the Roleystone back line. Eventually Roleystone pushed it into the forward line. Several behinds from long kicks by Kieran Scott, Jackson Morfitt and Joshua Griffiths. Eventually Eric bustled his way through to kick Roleystone's first goal. A quick reply by Forrestdale dampened the effort a little.
Another frustrating quarter for Roleystone spectators, although Roleystone did outscore Forrestdale by a couple of points. Some frantic play in the final quarter was impressive. Eric Mitchell was fired up and broke tackles to push the ball forward. It was hard and physical which inspired the Roleystone boys to play harder. Mark Fraser had a solid last quarter in the mid field. In the end it was a fair effort against a quick and strong marking team.
